Here comes a little bit of a vent sesh.
When we started this blog, we really weren’t expecting it to take up too much time.
We thought we’d just have to write an article or two a week, post them to Twitter and interact with fellow bloggers, try to read about growing an audience…you know…simple stuff like that.
Boy, were we wrong.
If creating this blog and building a following was my only job, I’m sure it wouldn’t seem too daunting, but while working a full-time job of 50+ hours a week, it really does get hard.
Everything takes a lot longer than we expected and building an audience has been way harder than we thought. Heck, even setting up the site alone took a few weeks of our time.
Some days when I’m almost done work, I wish I could just go home and lay on the couch and watch old Game of Thrones episodes. It really does take a lot for me to hit the local coffee shop and dedicate a few hours to the blog every week. The funny thing is, though, that once I’m there, I actually really enjoy it!
I love seeing whats up in the personal finance community and following everyone’s journey. It really is inspiring and definitely a big reason why blogging has been so enjoyable so far and why I think I’ll get it going well into the future.
I guess sometimes it’s just hard to figure out where to draw the line between work and relaxation. Sure, I wouldn’t consider blogging “work” – per se – but it still involves watching a computer screen and typing – something that I do pretty much all day at work already. Not to mention finding time for exercise, fantasy football research, reading, and everything else I wish I could do every day.
I’m sure as time goes on I’ll get a little better at figuring out the best way to fit blogging into my busy schedule. Hopefully in a few months (or years?) I’ll reread this blog post and realize how far I’ve come, but for now, I guess I’ll sit back, keep learning, and enjoy the ride.
Maybe you guys can help. How do you fit blogging into your schedule? Any tips or tricks for new bloggers like us?
